A site-responsive artist residency in Vieques, Puerto Rico
Biolumina Artist Residency is the residency program of Fundación Casa Mi Rey, supporting jury-selected artists from Vieques, Puerto Rico, the Caribbean, and beyond. The residency offers time, space, and studio resources for contemporary artists to develop work through research, reflection, experimentation, and site-responsive creation.
A Program of Fundación Casa Mi Rey
Biolumina is part of Fundación Casa Mi Rey’s mission to expand access to art, culture, education, and creative exchange in Vieques.
While the residency provides artists with a quiet environment for focused creative work, it also contributes to the Foundation’s broader commitment to cultural learning, artistic dialogue, and meaningful community engagement on the island.
Rooted in Vieques
Biolumina invites artists to engage with Vieques as a living territory shaped by landscape, memory, ecology, history, and community life.
The program encourages artists to develop work in dialogue with the island’s rhythms, materials, stories, and cultural context—not as a backdrop, but as an active source of knowledge and exchange.
Community Impact
Through partnerships with local schools, cultural organizations, and community spaces, Biolumina connects resident artists with the Vieques community through public workshops, talks, screenings, presentations, and educational activities.
These programs help expand access to cultural education while creating meaningful encounters between local residents, Vieques-based artists, and visiting cultural practitioners.
