Theater, body, and memory from the island
Teatro Kayak Vieques is the community-based performing arts program of Fundación Casa Mi Rey.
Rooted in Vieques, the program uses theater, movement, voice, oral memory, objects, music, humor, food, and collective creation as tools for cultural learning and community expression.
Teatro Kayak Vieques creates spaces where residents can tell stories, activate memory, build confidence, and participate in the creation of live performance.
No previous theater experience is required. Only a willingness to listen, tell, move, remember, and create in community.
A Program of Fundación Casa Mi Rey
Teatro Kayak Vieques is part of Fundación Casa Mi Rey’s mission to expand access to art, culture, education, and creative exchange in Vieques.
Through theater and collective creation, the program supports community learning, cultural participation, intergenerational dialogue, and the preservation of living memory.
The program is designed to make the performing arts accessible to people who may not have formal training but carry stories, gestures, voices, recipes, songs, memories, and lived experiences that are central to the cultural life of the island.
Taller-Montaje I
School-laboratory of theater, body, and memory
Taller-Montaje I is the first training and creation process of Teatro Kayak Vieques.
Over four months, participants will explore the body, voice, improvisation, personal memory, family objects, island stories, cooking, the sea, the land, music, humor, and celebration to create a collective performance piece.
The process will culminate with a public presentation at Cundeamor in Vieques.
This is not a traditional acting class. It is a community laboratory where theater becomes a way to remember, listen, gather, and create together.
